I got the same error when I pressed continue in Courier Chess Moderno.

Just went to make the first move [as white] in a 47 contest game and got
this error message after I accepted the invite from John:

The logfile
../pbmlogs/wormhole%20xiang%20qi/ultimatecoolster-mjjoyce3-2009-4-285.php
does not exist.

Everything appeared fine with the new game until I hit the 'continue'
button to get the error message.

The Alfaerie: Grand Shatranj piece set looks fine. Thank you.

I probably uploaded an older version of alfshatranj when I fixed it
yesterday. I just retrieved the current version from a backup I downloaded
to Ubuntu Linux, changed the .com in the base directory to .org, and
uploaded it. Check how it looks now.

You should see what happened to the Large Nahbi Chess game I've got going
with Uri - 2&1/2 feet of error messages and a board with no pieces on it
at all. Maybe I'll wait a day or so before making any moves - the
Shortrange courier game changed while I was looking at it...

Happy New Year to all!

David Paulowich wrote on Wed, Dec 31, 2008 11:45 PM UTC:

Yes, the ShortRange Courier Chess preset was fine a few days ago. Now the (full alphabet) display gives the same image for 'D' and 'Y'. But 'E' still adds an x to the Elephant.

Joe Joyce wrote on Wed, Dec 31, 2008 06:19 PM UTC:
Hmmm, the Y and y pieces in Alfaerie: Grand Shatranj seem to have changed.
The piece is a DW, and was pictured as a standard dababbah with a '+' on
its side. The + has disappeared from the pieces in the game and in the
piece set. Dumb question #1: will this spontaneously reverse itself?

Joe Joyce wrote on Wed, Dec 31, 2008 04:07 AM UTC:
Fergus, David, thank you.

I have changed chessvariants.com to point to the new site. The change may
take up to 48 hours to propogate.

🕸Fergus Duniho wrote on Wed, Dec 31, 2008 03:09 AM UTC:

Although Firefox is the better browser, the choice of browser has nothing to do with it. I believe David Howe is moving the chessvariants.com domain to point to this site, but it hasn't fully propagated yet. The images that were not showing up for David Paulowich (and for me too) were on chessvariants.com rather than chessvariants.org.

Joe Joyce wrote on Wed, Dec 31, 2008 03:01 AM UTC:
I dodged Vista, stuck with XP [pro] and use Firefox. Not that I know
anything but you might try to download a free browser like Firefox, and
see how that works. [One pita about the newest Firefox, its search window
bites - use google for anything other than web addresses. It only
recognizes a .com or .org-type input. Of course, that could well be my own
ineptitude.]

Has something happened to the Alfaerie: Grand Shatranj image set? No
pictures this morning in this game - ditto some Grand/Great Shatranj games
I looked at.
**********************

I looked at the game when David mentioned it in a game comment, but saw
all the pieces fine, so I figured it was just a temporary glitch. I just
read his comment, went to our game, and find everything perfect, exactly
as it should be.

David, what browser are you using?

I don't use Chrome, but I checked it out with Safari, which also uses
Web-Kit, and I had no problems.

I made sure.

🕸Fergus Duniho wrote on Tue, Dec 30, 2008 02:06 AM UTC:
Make sure you're at chessvariants.org and not chessvariants.com, which is
still pointing at the old site. I doubt your choice of browser should have
any effect on whether you can access the What's New? page.

John Smith wrote on Mon, Dec 29, 2008 09:29 PM UTC:
The site only works sometimes with Google's Chrome browser. I can access
the Main Index and Recognized Variants, but not the What's New page, like
when the site is down normally.

Joe,

On the old site, PHP scripts automatically turned form data and URL data
assignments into variables, but on this site it is not doing that. I fixed
Game Courier to read URL data assignments last night, but what I did does
not work for encoded URLs. I am working late tonight, but I can fix it
after I get home.

Thank you. That's a very nice Merry Christmas to an awful lot of people.

Game Courier is up and running again. I finally transferred the logs with
both the timestamps and the permissions intact. What actually worked took
much less time than all the deadends I tried. I got the files with their
original timestamps and permissions from a backup tar.gz file I downloaded
from the original site. I made a tar.gz file of the logs, uploaded it, and
extracted it to the play subdomain. I had to modify my scripts to read
form data. On the old site, form data was automatically translated into
variables in PHP scripts. On the new site, it is not done automatically,
and the script needs to handle it itself. In the end, it probably makes
scripts more secure. Finally, I have discounted four days from any move
interrupted by the move. You can now make moves in your games again
without any time lost.

🕸Fergus Duniho wrote on Wed, Dec 24, 2008 07:39 PM UTC:
I had finished uploading the backup this morning, and it was busy restoring
the backup when I had to go to work. So I shut off my computer, not sure
whether it would have any effect on the restoration. From work, I have not
noticed any change in the timestamps. I will try again when I can, first
deleting the logs, then attempting the backup restoration again.

🕸Fergus Duniho wrote on Wed, Dec 24, 2008 01:01 PM UTC:
Since I have not been able to preserve the timestamps by ftp, I have
requested a backup of the old site, which I will then transfer to the new
site. This may wipe out any new comments and pages added since the move
began, but it should probably be faster than ftp, since it shouldn't have
to make an individual request to upload each file.

🕸Fergus Duniho wrote on Wed, Dec 24, 2008 06:48 AM UTC:
My failure was even worse than I first imagined. The 'keep timestamps in
sync' option that I used with FireFTP had the reverse effect that I
wanted, changing the timestamps of all the logs on my computer. Now I have
to start the whole thing over. So don't move the chessvariants.com domain
yet, David.

🕸Fergus Duniho wrote on Wed, Dec 24, 2008 06:36 AM UTC:
My attempt to preserve the timestamps while uploading failed. I
successfully downloaded them with the old timestamps and have them on my
computer that way, but the old timestamps were not preserved when I
uploaded them. I will try again with a different program.

🕸Fergus Duniho wrote on Wed, Dec 24, 2008 04:18 AM UTC:
I am reuploading the Game Courier logs with the old timestamps preserved,
so that the logs page can sort them by date. At the rate it's going, it
should continue into the night. Until then, Game Courier is dormant, so
that what I'm doing will not overwrite any new moves. Game Courier has
already been programmed to take off three days from any moves interrupted
by this move. I expect to have it up and running by tomorrow morning,
which is still within the three days from Monday at 10:00 AM.
